"BRAVEday never made a cent out of me... And yet right from day one, Dean has supported me. There's been nothing in it for him at all financially, but that's the sort of guy he is and the sort of company they are. It's not about the payment so much and all about looking after the customers. They've done a fantastic job. Wayne was introduced to BRAVEday through an accounting firm while in the process of buying a business..."
"One of the things the accounting firm brought up was considering key person insurance," says Wayne. "They had actually used Dean themselves and they spoke highly of him." "After having dealings with insurance people in the past, I was quite blown away by how un-insurance-like Dean was. He was more interested in my background, what I was doing, than just pushing a policy down my throat, which I've seen a lot of people do.
"After understanding me, my family, the business, and where I was coming from, he came back with a number of recommendations in writing. I went pretty well with his whole recommendation.
"I already had an existing policy for life as well as income protection. At that stage he could've easily cancelled that and taken out a new one so he could get more money out of it, but he pointed out that the policy I already had was an extremely good one, and no matter what happened, always keep it.
"His advice was really pragmatic, he wasn't thinking from a selfish perspective."
At the time, Wayne didn't understand the idea behind the name BRAVEday. But when he suffered a complete mental breakdown and was hospitalised, he realised the significance of claim day being BRAVEday. His partner at the time dealt with BRAVEday through the claims process, and proved the reality behind the name. "The theme was all about making sure they're looking after people," says Wayne. "It described the whole experience."
Wayne's claim came 11 and a half months into his relationship with BRAVEday. The key policy he claimed on was not through BRAVEday, so as Wayne says, "BRAVEday never made a cent out of me. And yet right from day one, Dean has supported me. There's been nothing in it for him at all financially, but that's the sort of guy he is and the sort of company they are. It's not about the payment so much and all about looking after the customers."
"They've done a fantastic job."
"When you take out a policy you're not really thinking about claims, you're thinking about what's the cheapest. BRAVEday was taking everything into account, especially interactions they have with companies and what they're like at claim time."
When asked why he would recommend BRAVEday to anyone else, Wayne says "Definitely integrity. I've worked with a lot of salespeople over my life, Dean's definitely a salesperson, but he's one that's got a heart and got integrity. The whole company has."
"The second is that holistic look, they don't just throw a policy at you, they will actually tailor and personalise something based on your circumstances and your understanding.
"And then just the overall management. When you've got your policy, they don't just say 'see you later'. I get birthday cards, I get calls from them on a regular basis. They don't just sign you up, they really look after you."
