Aaron Williams

I’m 49 years old and worked for Life and Health Insurers for my entire career.

I met Dean and Tania over 15 years ago, not long after I’d become sick with a rare and debilitating illness. After I’d come to terms with my illness, it was clear to me that it wasn’t something that would let me go, or that I would ever recover from.

You would think that someone who’d worked in this industry for over 20 years wouldn’t need an adviser…

I guess I had enough understanding to know that when the time came for me that I couldn’t work, and possibly never work again, I needed people I had absolute trust in to navigate the present situation, and safeguard the future.

We all feel bulletproof and infallible when we are healthy and doing well. What people don’t realise is that when you become unwell, especially with a condition that is a constant and worsens over the years, you get ground down. Initially its physical, then it destroys you mentally. From my personal experience I lost the ability and power to think as clearly and logically as I once did.

In 2007 I asked Dean (from BRAVEday) to act as my adviser. The decision was a simple one for me. I knew how Dean and his business partner (who is also his wife) had built their business. Their philosophy is all about knowing and understanding their clients, as well as staying in touch regularly. Ultimately they pride themselves on being there at the most important time for insurance – claim time! Acting on their clients behalf to get claims paid, especially when, like me, they are in no shape to do it themselves.

I had to stop working in 2016 and subsequently made a claim on my Income Protection policy. Over time it became pretty clear I’d never work again so in 2020 BRAVEday pursued a TPD claim on my behalf (the definition for TPD is ‘Totally & Permanently Disabled’ - meaning I’d never be fit to work again). This was incredibly difficult for me -coming to terms with the fact that I wouldn’t work again, but it was the reality that I’d understood for a long time.

The claim was paid out not long after. BRAVEday looked after every step of the process, protecting me from things I wasn’t fit to face. They also have an incredible relationship with the insurer's they deal with.

Insurance is all about claim time, the people you have acting on your behalf, and the strength of the relationships they have built with insurers over the years

Dean and Tania I can’t thank you enough for looking after me in every respect when I needed it the most.
