Winter has well and truly arrived and with a long weekend coming up you might be finding it difficult to keep the kids entertained. Here are some ideas of things you can do that don't cost too much and it doesn't matter if it rains:
Visit a Toy Library - This week is National Toy Library Awareness Week. For those who don't know, a toy library is a place when you can borrow a range of toys, puzzles, games and other learning activities for children. Some toy libraries also stock games, puzzles, sports and musical equipment that can be used by the entire family.
To join, there is usually a membership fee, which can vary depending on which library you join. The library itself is run by a group of volunteers.
If you are keen to track down your nearest toy library, a list of their locations can be found here.
Check out Auckland Museum - entry is free if you are an Aucklander; otherwise admission is $25 per adult and $10 per child.
The exhibitions change regularly so there is always something new to see. Many of these exhibitions are aimed at children.

Go Rock Climbing - entry prices vary, depending on which venue you go to.
A list of locations around Auckland can be found here.
Spend the day at MOTAT - admission is $16 for adults, $8 for children (aged 5 - 16), under 5s Free.
MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) is New Zealand's largest transport and technology museum. They regularly change their exhibitions and often run fun days that the kids will enjoy… for example, the first Sunday of every month is Demo Day. They also run events during the school holidays.
