My time in Adelaide 8-9 May at the National Achievers Conference was complete, and I was in my room the following morning packing my bag for the journey home. All done, I jumped in the lift to head downstairs for breakfast before my flight.
I was shown to my table - one of about 50 - in the busy hotel bistro and (OMG!) sitting at the table right next to me having a coffee by himself was Mark Bouris - the guy I had flown to Adelaide to hear speak. Any guy who can start, build and sell a business for $500 million is worth listening to in my book. It must have been fate - surely!!
After getting over my initial 'star struck' moment, I plucked up the courage to say "Gidday Mate" - hey, he is an Aussie after all!
The next 45 minutes chatting to him one on one was some of the most enlightening of my business career - it rocked!!
We spoke about life, business, family, fame and the scrutiny that comes with it. I even asked him if I could get his advice on a few specific things to do with growing our own business - BRAVEday! He happily obliged.
It was a conversation I didn't want to end, and it seemed to go on for ages. Mark is obviously happy to share his experiences and success with others - thanks man! It was a real once in a lifetime moment for me - I had a smile on my face for hours.
My lesson in this is: if you're prepared to put yourself out there, and are prepared to do things most don't, sometimes an opportunity presents itself to you that you will remember for a very long time.
As I heard a very wise man (Les Brown) once say "You won't discover greatness in your comfort zone"
Live boldly & have a BRAVEday
