I have tried everything over the past 20 years or so, in the pursuit of living a healthier lifestyle - but it's probably only been in the last six months that I have really found what works best for me.
Are you stuck in a fitness rut, or just want to start a fitness regime? Here are some tips for getting that butt off the couch, and on your way to being a better you:
Are you sick of walking on a treadmill to nowhere? TryHigh Intensity Training: The "get in, work hard, get out" approach really appeals if you have much better things you rather do than spend hours in the gym. A great place to go (and I speak from experience) is TheBox in Browns Bay - be prepared for lots of squats, burpees and step-ups, and great results.
Track: Ditch the scales … they are not your friend. Instead, focus on your activity…get a wee notebook and jot down when you exercise, what you are putting in your mouth and how well you are sleeping. For a more high tech approach, try a nifty gadget like a Nike FuelBandor a Fitbit.
Play: Put the fun back into your fitness routine to avoid boredom or burnout - join a team, take up surfing or have a go at rock climbing. With summer approaching, another great activity is Stand Up Paddling (SUP) … the team at supsnz.com (Takapuna Beach) are fantastic teachers!
Listen: Studies have shown that upbeat music increases your exercise performance … pick songs with 120-140 beats per minute to boost your motivation.
