It's spring clean month - we've touched on cleaning up your health and your finances but what about your home? It's a given that you will dust, vacuum and clean the light shades and window sills, right? But just when you thought you had finished, here's a list of the little things that you really should clean, but probably don't!
- The TV remote - honestly, can you remember the last time you cleaned this?
- Your recycle bin - this sorts out the seriously OCD from the laid back (I have NEVER cleaned my recycle bin).
- The aerator thingys in your kitchen tap - eeewww! What is in our water?!
- Ice-cube trays - generally, you use the ice then you refill it, right? Pop it in the dishwasher before your next refill.
- Houseplants - these get pretty dusty over time. Spray waxy leaves with water and wipe, or bush fuzzy leaves with an old toothbrush.
- Speaking of toothbrushes - take a close look at your toothbrush holder, now give it a good scrub! While you are at it, soak your toothbrush in white vinegar for a freshen-up.
- Your bathroom plug holes - unless there is an obvious block, these tend to get neglected. Here's the 'how to' (warning, contains icky pictures!).
- Light switches - we touch them every day, but rarely give them a wipe.
So now you're suitably grossed out by how unclean things possibly are in your home (no wait, that might just be me) just remember that it's not all bad … there are some things that you should just NEVER clean:
- Your ears - these are self-cleaning (but here's the disgusting bit - any excess wax usually falls out while you are eating!).
- Cats - unless you are into being scratched to within an inch of your life.
- Raw meat - you think you are washing off that salmonella when you rinsing your chicken? Nope, you are just helping it spread all over your sink and benches.
- Teapots - it just ruins them.
- Your denim jeans - we've had this debate in the office … not sure I agree, but the Levi's guy swears by it.
