We all know that smoking causes cancer and the price of cigarettes is going through the roof… so here are 5 tips to help you give up:
- Pick a date to stop smoking - this will help you stick to your goal. Be realistic with the day you choose, don't pick a day during a holiday period or during a really stressful time. Tell all your friends and family and mark the date in your calendar.
- Get rid of everything to do with smoking - throw away your cigarettes, matches, lighters and ashtrays. Also make your home and car smoke-free.
- Write down why you want to quit - really wanting to quit smoking is very important to your success. Put a copy of this on your fridge to help you stay motivated.
- Be prepared for withdrawals - you may get mood swings and cravings. If you need help you can get nicotine patches or gum.
- Don't give up - most people try several times to quit. If you don't succeed the first time, regroup and try again.
