Get Moving

There are over 200,000 people in NZ diagnosed with diabetes. Obesity is at an all-time high, with more than a million New Zealand adults falling into an unhealthy weight range.

Tomorrow (14th November) is World Diabetes Day - it's a great opportunity to remind us to make some healthier choices in life …

The best way to start moving if you don't already have exercise as part of your routine is incidental exercise - try some of these tips:

  • Park in the car park as far away from the door as possible
  • Take stairs instead of the lift or escalator
  • Actively play with your kids, instead of just watching
  • Walk around while you are talking on the phone
  • Get someone to hide your TV remote.

  • Popcorn instead of Chips
  • Blended Frozen Bananas instead of Ice Cream
  • Honey instead of Sugar
  • Water with a Lemon Slice instead of Soft Drink

Still not convinced you should make some changes?  Leigh Elder tells a compelling story as part of this Campbell Live article; it shares some startling statistics.
