Living every moment

Following on from 'Hospice Awareness Week 2012' we highlight the offerings of a service provider close to our heart and a philosophy that encompasses the BRAVEday vision of an abundant life.

Hospice is commonly misconceived as a place of death, however, at its core, the hospice enables people to live every day to the fullest, in whichever way is important to them.

Hospice care encompasses emotional, spiritual and social needs as well as caring for the needs of the family. This care was demonstrated for us first hand when Dean's mother passed away. The support from her caregivers extended as far as helping her write her life's story - a truly fulfilling gift. I regularly visit the North Shore Hospice to offer manicures as part of the monthly 'pamper day' organised by hospice, and for every new policy that is put in place BRAVEday donates $10 to North Shore Hospice.

People are living longer, more satisfying lives thanks to the committed staff on and offsite hospice facility centres. With 34 Hospices across NZ, there is plenty of opportunity for you to do your part too. If you are in Auckland - keep an eye out for add a dollar for hospice at all North Shore Warehouse stores from June 25th to July 1st, or enjoy some wine and food matches at the Vintners Brunch in August.

Throughout life, we try to make every day count, and our final days needn't be any different. With the right planning, and the right support no day will pass like the one before it.

What are you going to do to make this week count?
