Keeping the Kids Entertained

Written by Ami Nathan | Jul 18, 2013 12:00:00 PM

So we are half way through the school holidays, and I am sure some parents are running out of ideas on how to keep the kids entertained, especially without breaking the bank.

Here are a few ideas, that don't cost too much and are good even if it is a rainy day…

Auckland Museum - The museum has something for everyone… there is the olden day street, the Maori cultural exhibits, the interactive children's area and the list goes on.

There is no admission fee (however, a $10 donation is suggested for adults).

Become an Astronaut at Stardome - Stardome are running a holiday programme (on weekdays) where your children can learn what it takes to become an Astronaut.

They can take off into space with the Planetarium show 'Astronaut', followed by face painting and a hands on session making your very own Astronaut gear to take home.

The ticket prices are $8 per adult and $10 per child.

Aotea Square Ice Rink - this has been set up in Aotea Square (until the 11th of August) and is fully covered.

The rink is running some extra entertainment during the school holidays, which includes ice skating lessons, skating demonstrations, snow sculpture-making, competitions and themed weekends.

This one is a bit more pricy, Ticket prices for Adults are $20 and Children are $15… but there is a family pass (2 adults and 2 children) available for $55.  The ticket price includes skate hire and 90 minutes of skating time.

Aladdin (at the Bruce Mason Centre) - this stage show is the classic Aladdin story and runs every day from 10.30am.

There is a claustrophobic Genie who longs for freedom, a beautiful Princess who has a mind of her own, an evil sorcerer with a dastardly plan, and of course a brave and feisty hero!

Tickets are $16 each.

Pirate Academy - the Voyager NZ Maritime Museum is running a special school holiday program which includes a trail map to collect the lost scrolls and other pirate activities.

There is no admission fee to enter the museum (however, $5 is charged for the activity pack).

Please feel free to add any of your fun ideas to our list!
