Hunt for Holly

This Sunday I will be taking part in an event for my cousin Holly, called "Hunt for Holly". This event is to help fundraise for her cancer treatments.

The "Hunt for Holly" is a scavenger hunt which will be taking place around Browns Bay on the North Shore. People must register their teams of 2-6 people and all dress up in their team's choice of costume.

Holly Devine is a young, caring, beautiful woman who lives life to the fullest.  She is a family girl, loves being around her friends and loves to travel.  Holly was diagnosed with cancer (melanoma) at the age of 13 and managed to beat it.  Sadly, six years later, her cancer returned and she has had to start the fight all over again.

Holly began a trial drug in September called Vemurafenib which is designed to 'turn off' cancer cell growth.  It seemed that within a few days, this new medication had begun to make an impact.   Along with Holly's combination of other pills and daily radiation treatments, there are several other drugs and treatments in which Holly needs to help towards her final goal of curing this cancer.

Holly has undergone a whole lifestyle change since her cancer returned last year and is doing her best to live the organic healthy way of life.  As well as following the doctor's orders, Holly and her family have chosen to research further and have found some amazing ways to help fight this cancer holistically. One of the treatments they have found is a Vitamin C injection also called L-ascorbic acid or ascorbate.  This treatment is not available on the public system, and is not covered by insurance, so the expense is starting to take its toll - financial stress should be the last thing on their minds.

Holly is a great inspiration to me, and I often share her story with my clients.  We may think we are 10 feet tall and bulletproof, but the reality is, we aren't - which is why I regularly advise my clients to take out trauma insurance.
