Food Traps

It's fair to say that most of us know what we should, and shouldn't be doing when it comes to eating a balanced diet, and trying to stay healthy. Whether or not we follow these things though, is another story entirely. Now (post-Easter chocolate overload) is a great time to share a reminder of some of the traps we get into:

Skipping meals.  Whether you've woken up late, the kids are being painful, or you have just run out of time it is time to change this unhealthy habit.  Skipping breakfast reduces your memory capacity, concentration and logic receptors meaning your day is off to a less productive start.  You are also more likely to sneak in chocolate and sweet foods later in the day.

Skip lunch and your metabolism gets even more confused, and will likely trigger a sugary fatty craving at 3pm.

Filling up on coffee.  Take a minute next time you are waiting at the lights to look around and see how many people around you have a takeaway coffee cup in their hand.  It's an easy habit to get into, but have you stopped to think of the negative effects in that cup?  1 Latte five days a week can lead to a possible weight gain of over 5kgs per year!  Not to mention the effect of caffeine on your system.

Shopping on the way home: We can all relate to just popping into the supermarket for two things on the way home, only to come out with an overflowing basket of goodies.  Not only is this not an economical way to shop, it takes valuable time out of your day.

Eating too little: Sending your body into starvation mode while losing weight will only lead to weight gain once you give in and start eating "normally" again.

What food traps have you fallen into?
