Dress Up Like Rudolph

This year's Red Nose Day will be contributing to the Cure Kids charity.

Cure Kids is the official charity of the All Blacks and the NZRU and will be showcased on TV3 with a comedy extravaganza featuring Flight of the Conchords, Rhys Darby, Jeremy Corbett, Paul Ego and the 7 Days panel.

The charity is over 35 years old and invests into a wide range of research including stillbirth, childhood leukaemia, heart disease, genetic conditions and asthma among others.

Red Nose Day is a national fundraising campaign which utilises the light-hearted Kiwi culture, and supports children across New Zealand. A simple idea created in 1988 in the UK, the campaign encourages everyone to let go, laugh, and be silly…all for a serious cause.

One child who has benefited from it and is also a big part of Red Nose Day every year is 4 year old Eva Mitchell. Eva was born with a large hole in her diaphragm meaning she was unable to develop internally. She was given a very slim chance of surviving but has beaten the odds more times than anyone can count. She has had multiple strokes and now has chronic lung disease and gastrointestinal failure and has to be fed direct into her blood stream. She has spent most of her young life in Starship Hospital, but always has a smile on her face and looks forward to putting on the infamous red nose every year alongside her big sister, Mela.

Red noses are available from Wednesday 1st August until Friday 24th August and are available at a number of outlet stores and through street appeals.

Events such as Red Nose Day are a reminder to us all that life is precious and that we as a community need to support each other when possible.
