Vehicle Relicensing Tip

Rumour has it that vehicle relicensing costs are set to drop substantially (around $130 annually or $11 a month) on 1 April 2015.

Here is a handy tip that could save you even more!

Do you usually renew your "rego" for a year?  Not many people realise that they have more options to renew than just 6 or 12 months …in fact, you can choose any period between 3-12 months.

Here is an example of how you can save:

If your current license expires this month (October) renew it only for six months (up to and including April) instead of a year.  If you then renew it for a further six months in April, you will have paid $66 less than if you had relicensed for a year!  If it expires next month (November), renew it only for five months to take full advantage of the savings.

You have to relicense for a minimum of three months, so if your current registration expires in February or March next year then it makes sense to renew for just for the minimum three months.  Then you have a couple of choices, go back to renewing for a year, or just relicense for the period that takes you back to your original relicensing month, then revert to yearly renewals from there.

Don't be sheepish about relicensing for less than 12 months; you are not doing something that you are not entitled to do. Even better, do it online to avoid the post office queues!
