How do you book your travel?

Modern technology has meant that flitting across the country, or even the world, can be arranged at the touch of a button, without much fuss.

There are still people though, who prefer the personal touch complete with shiny brochures and a friendly travel agent to have a chat with.  Then there are the mid-rangers who want to be able to email the friendly travel agent to take care of it all for them, without having to leave their desk.

So which is the best way to organise your travel? How about some pros and cons to help you make your decision:

Why you should use a Travel Agent:

Expertise: Taking a punt on a great looking website could land you in a dingy box with a view of a concrete wall.  Travel agents usually have first-hand knowledge of the places they recommend.   Like us, travel agents are specialists in their field, so really know what they are talking about.

Saves time. You may think it will take longer to sit with a travel agent to book, but did you know it takes and average of 5 hours planning/research to book an overseas holiday?

Knowledge: Trusty travel agents can advise on currency, jabs and/or visas required.  No one wants to be turned away at the border because they haven't completed the right forms.

When online is your best option:

Domestic Travel. It's just too easy to jump online, book and pay for your ticket.

Price check. If you have the time, you can check prices over a range of airlines to ensure you are getting the best deal.

Control:  Some people just can't let go of it … making all of your own online bookings ensures that the buck stops with you.

I have recently booked a trip to Singapore & Bali, and found that the "mixture option" really worked for me ….I did a little price comparison online, then emailed a travel agent who has taken care of the details for me.  I have the reassurance that we've paid a reasonable price, without the hassle of having to actually book anything.
