Part of my role at BRAVEday is to help our clients with getting their medical claims processed. I read this article recently, which shows health insurance claims in NZ are at a record high. We often get asked if medical insurance is really necessary when we have a public health system - this article really highlights that the short answer is yes!
At the end of 2013, BRAVEday clients had $155,525 paid out in medical claims (bear in mind, this is only the clients that come through our office - the majority of our clients go direct to their insurer for medical claims). So far this year, this figure is at $184,659 … that's a 19% increase in medical claims for our clients, this year alone, and there is still a month to go.
With an aging population, medical insurance is becoming more necessary than ever. It's a really good idea to take out this cover when you are young and relatively healthy, so the chance of having exclusions on your policy is minimised.
