It's not just food prices that impact the typical NZ family,
cash cuts announced in the government budget has many early
childhood centres considering whether or not they can participate
in the "20 hours free" scheme. The brunt of the impact of
these changes will be felt by the centres (businesses that need to
make a profit) parents, and the kids - some of whom may miss out
(to find out more check out this NZ Herald article).
Childcare centres are a crucial part of most NZ families day to
day routine, whether it's regular day care while parents work or
more ad hoc to teach children social skills and provide time for
parents to do tasks without taking their children along. More
cost or changes in the quality of care that children receive will
have a major effect.
A quote from my teenage stepdaughter seems topical here (age 14)
- "….Tania, I'm not having kids - they are a waste of time and
expensive". I don't agree with the 'waste of time part' but
they sure seem expensive.
On a more positive note, BRAVEday has partnered
with Folkestone St Child Care in Mairangi Bay to bring
BRAVEday clients a special offer (see
below). Please take advantage of this special offer and let
us know what you think of Folkestone St.
